Did you Know:

  • 83% of two-year college graduates have same annual earnings as four-year college graduates.
  • 65% of our workforce is Skilled; 20% Professional, 15% Unskilled.
  • For every 10 California high school freshman....
    3 drop out, 3 graduate & work, 4 enter college -
    2 drop out of college, 2 graduate college.
  • The average beginning age of a skilled apprentice in California in 1960 was 19, today it is 29.
  • Dropout rate is cut in half for students who take three sequential CTE courses.
  • California Employment Development Department expects 6.5 million new job openings to be generated in the state by 2014 - 2.5 Million created by economic growth, 4 Million by retiring baby boomers.
  • A study done by Lansing Area Manufacturing Partnership found that CTE students enrolled in college did a better job in sustaining their enrollment and reported being better prepared for the college environment.
  • California accounts for 20% of nation's high tech jobs and production.
  • In 1987, 74% of California high school students were enrolled in CTE.  In 2005, just 34% enrolled.
  • A vast majority of California jobs require a high level of technical literacy and skill, but not a four-year degree.
  • There has been a decline in the number of CTE teachers from 6,922 in 1988 to 4,923 in 2005.
