Cerritos College and CSULB have a long standing history of working together to improve education.  The Chancellor’s Office, California Community Colleges Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grant has offered another opportunity for CSULB and Cerritos to partner, through the Professional Studies Department.

The Professional Studies Department at CSULB offers several programs “designed to enable persons to gain the competencies requisite for successful employment in secondary schools, community colleges and adult programs as teachers, coordinators and supervisors of vocational, occupational, career and technical preparation, and related human resource development programs” (CSULB website).

Future CTE teachers wanting to pursue their Designated-Subject Credential to teach in a high school setting through a Regional Occupational Center (ROC), or a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Studies (concentration in Vocational Arts) to teach in a community college setting may do so at CSULB. To learn more about the programs offered at CSULB in the Professional Studies Department visit their website at www.csulb.edu/colleges/chhs/departments/prof/

Cerritos College and CSULA enjoy a formal partnership through the Woodworking and Automotive programs and the Department of Technology, respectively, to provide students an opportunity to complete courses that meet CSULA B.S. Industrial Technology degree requirements. The Chancellor’s Office, California Community Colleges Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grant has provided an opportunity to formalize that partnership by developing pathways for future Industrial and Technology Education (ITE teachers). CSULA offers the Industrial Technology degree with a Technology Education Track that prepares students for teaching careers:

·         Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology

Furthermore, CSULA is one of only two California State Universities offering a Single-Subject Credential program in Industrial Technology and Education (ITE).

To learn more about the programs offered at CSULA for future middle school and high school industrial and technology education (ITE) teachers, visit the Industrial Technology program website at http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/ecst/tech/itec/ or Dr. Seaman’s (advisor) home page at http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/vseaman/
